NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the Georgian Minister of Defence Juansher Burchuladze to NATO Headquarters on Wednesday (30 June), ahead of a meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission. This was the first meeting between Mr. Stoltenberg and Mr. Burchuladze.

The Secretary General thanked the Defence Minister for Georgia’s substantial contributions to NATO’s operations and missions over the years. He welcomed Georgia’s focus on electoral and judicial reforms, which support Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Mr. Stoltenberg and Mr. Burchuladze discussed the NATO Summit outcomes, where Heads of State and Government reaffirmed NATO’s enduring commitment to Open Door Policy.

The Secretary General and the Georgian Defence Minister also discussed political and practical cooperation, as well as Black Sea security. During their exchanges, the Secretary General reaffirmed NATO’s full support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
