In an online event with the European Parliament on Monday (28 June 2021), NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said that NATO’s Brussels Summit had set ‘a new level of ambition’ for NATO-EU cooperation, “including in areas such as resilience, new technologies, climate change, or strategic competition”.

He further stressed the importance of “strengthened political dialogue between NATO and the EU” to “foster transparency, trust and mutual situational awareness”.

The European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) and Sub-Committee on Defence (SEDE) on NATO’s political and security agenda post-Summit, in association with the European Parliament’s Delegation to NATO (DNAT) and the European Parliament’s Delegation to the US, attended the event. It provided NATO’s Deputy Secretary General with the opportunity to outline main Summit decisions and main security challenges. 

Currently, NATO and the EU are cooperating in more than seventy areas of work.
