Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg began a visit to Washington D.C. on Monday (7 June 2021) by previewing the upcoming NATO Summit at an event hosted by the Atlantic Council.

He stressed the importance of strengthening the transatlantic Alliance in a more competitive world. "How can we continue to make sure NATO remains the most successful alliance in history? The key to do that is to continue to change as the world is changing. And at the upcoming NATO summit, we will agree to a forward-looking ambitious agenda. We call it NATO 2030," he said.

Later on Monday, the Secretary General will meet President Joe Biden, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
