NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană underlined the Alliance’s enduring support for Ukraine and its ambitious reform agenda at the ‘Zero Corruption: Democracy in Action’ conference on Monday (7 June 2021). Speaking via video link, he stressed that fighting corruption is a critical way to defend democracy and encouraged the government of Ukraine to keep up its efforts in this area.

The Deputy Secretary General noted that NATO and Allies continue to provide significant practical support to Ukraine so that it can better provide for its own security. This includes training for the Ukrainian armed forces as well as advice to help build the capacity of Ukraine’s defence and security institutions. He stressed that NATO’s close partnership and cooperation with Ukraine is important, also when it comes to defending democracy.
