NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană on Thursday (13 May 2021) said that NATO’s unity and ability to adapt is essential amid a more unpredictable and rapidly changing world.

Speaking at an online event marking the 30th anniversary of the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria,  Mr Geoană underlined that NATO Summit next month will be a unique opportunity to reinforce NATO as the enduring embodiment of the bond between Europe and North America.  He called on Allies to keep defence spending up and underscored the importance of maintaining resilient societies, supplies chains and infrastructure. He also urged Allies to work more closely with like-minded democracies around the world to uphold the rules-based international order.

“The Summit will be an opportunity for Allies to recommit to our values and to what our Alliance stands for, so that we can continue to defend our nations and keep our people safe and free”, the Deputy Secretary General said.
