Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum on Wednesday (18 November), NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said that as NATO looks to the next decade and beyond, it needs to accelerate innovation, strengthen resilience and expand its partnerships.

The Alliance is tackling a widening array of security threats and challenges, including  Russian military and hybrid activities, terrorism, hostile cyber activity, the rise of China, climate disruptions and also pandemics. “In these very complex and unpredictable times, strong transatlantic cooperation is indispensable to keep us safe and free. This is true today, this will be true in the future,” said the Deputy Secretary General.

In his remarks, Mr. Geoană also encouraged the Forum participants to contribute their ideas to the ongoing work on NATO 2030 – Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s initiative to make NATO future-proof.

The Warsaw Security Forum is one of the leading European platforms devoted to transatlantic cooperation and focused on elaborating shared responses to common security challenges. Each year the event gathers over 1500 participants from 40 countries.
