Coronavirus response: NATO Allies deploy military medics to the Czech Republic

The United Kingdom has deployed medics from the Royal Army Medical Corps to the Czech Republic, in support of efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. The deployment follows a request for assistance by the Czech Republic to NATO’s Euro Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC).
The six Combat Medical Technicians from the United Kingdom landed in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, 10 November 2020 and were welcomed by Deputy Defence Minister Jan Havranek. They will offer healthcare assistance to the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Health for an initial period of four weeks, helping the Brno Military Hospital staff.
In bilateral aid, Germany also deployed two military medical staff to the Czech Republic on 10 November 2020. They will be working at the UVN Military Hospital in Prague.
The EADRCC is NATO’s principal disaster response mechanism. The Centre operates on a 24/7 basis, coordinating requests from NATO Allies and partners, as well as offers of assistance to cope with the consequences of major crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
