NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held talks on Wednesday (8 July 2020) with Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanishyna. They discussed the priorities of the new Ukrainian government and the strength of the NATO-Ukraine partnership. The Secretary General welcomed Ukraine’s status as an Enhanced Opportunities Partner, which recognises the country’s contributions to Euro-Atlantic security.

The Deputy Prime Minister also participated in a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, chaired by the Deputy Secretary General. She briefed Allies on Ukraine’s reform efforts and the security situation in and around Ukraine. Allies reiterated NATO’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and commended Ukraine on its commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Allies also stressed the importance of delivering on domestic reforms, particularly in the judiciary, with regard to the fight against corruption, and in the security and defence sector. The Deputy Secretary General noted that Ukraine’s Annual National Programme for 2020 remains a good framework to ensure progress in reforms. The meeting was also an opportunity for the NATO-Ukraine Commission to discuss practical steps to move forward the joint partnership agenda.
