NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Ambassador Peter Maurer at NATO Headquarters on Wednesday (26 February 2020) for an exchange of views on the relationship between the two organisations. Ambassador Peter Maurer also addressed the North Atlantic Council.

Mr. Stoltenberg said that dialogue between the two organisations and  the regular engagement by the ICRC in NATO training and exercises has been highly valuable to the Alliance. He also thanked Mr. Maurer for the active support of the ICRC in developing and implementing the NATO Policy for the Protection of Civilians. The NATO Policy for the Protection of Civilians was endorsed by NATO Heads of State and Government at the Warsaw Summit in July 2016.
