NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed President Ilir Meta of Albania to NATO headquarters on Monday (28 October 2019) to discuss preparations for the meeting of Allied Heads of State and Government in London in December. They also addressed NATO’s commitment to the stability and security of the Western Balkans.

The Secretary General said that Albania has been a committed Ally since joining NATO 10 years ago, contributing forces to NATO’s multinational battlegroup in Latvia, NATO’s KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, and the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.  Mr. Stoltenberg also highlighted the Alliance’s commitment to Albania, as demonstrated by NATO’s investment to upgrade the infrastructure at Kuçovë airbase.

The Secretary General thanked Albania for being a strong advocate for NATO’s Open Door policy and playing a key role in promoting cooperation in the Western Balkans.
