NATO’s most senior military officer, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee and General Valeriy Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and First Deputy Minister of Defence, spoke on the phone today, 28 August 2019.

The phone call demonstrates the continued mutual interest to maintain military lines of communication to promote predictability, in line with NATO’s policy of transparency and ongoing dialogue at the political level with senior Russian leadership.

Channels of political and military communication remain open to exchange information on issues of concern, reduce misunderstandings and increase predictability.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach and General Gerasimov agreed to continue using the military lines of communication in the future.
