NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, with the 29 Permanent Representatives of the North Atlantic Council marked the 25th anniversary of the Mediterranean Dialogue on Monday (6 May 2019) in Ankara, Turkey. They were joined by the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia and senior diplomats of the seven nations (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia) participating in the partnership forum.

Through the Mediterranean Dialogue, NATO has developed a unique network of partners across the region. It has helped to boost trust and cooperation between members”, the Secretary General said opening the event. He stressed that NATO is dedicated to promoting security across the Middle East and North Africa through the continued fight against terrorism, including NATO’s membership in the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh and by training local forces, in particular in Iraq.

Earlier on Monday, the Secretary General held separate talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on the security situation in the region and Turkey’s strong contributions to NATO.
