On Monday (26 November 2018), Kuwait inaugurated the offices of its first ever diplomatic mission to NATO. The ribbon-cutting inauguration ceremony was attended by Kuwait Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Khaled Aljarallah and NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Alejandro Alvargonzález.

Kuwait is a very active member of NATO's Istanbul Cooperation Initiative. Kuwait hosts the NATO- ICI Regional Center, which was inaugurated in Kuwait City on 24 January 2017. The NATO-ICI Regional Center’s objective is to improve common understanding of security challenges by creating a level of interoperability and standardisation that enables closer cooperation between NATO and its partners in the region. During its first year, 14 courses and activities were carried out at the Centre, 478 officers from ICI and GCC countries participated and were trained and 149 instructors and experts travelled to the Centre to deliver the courses.
