Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the 29 ambassadors of the North Atlantic Council are in Trondheim, Norway today (30 October 2018) to visit Exercise Trident Juncture – NATO’s largest exercise since the end of the Cold War. The drills bring together over 50,000 personnel from all 29 Allies, as well as partners Finland and Sweden.
In a press conference with Norwegian Defence Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen, Mr. Stoltenberg said: “We train to send a clear message to our own nations, and to anyone who might want to challenge us: NATO is ready and NATO is able to protect all Allies against any threat.” The Secretary General also stressed the defensive and transparent nature of Trident Juncture. He noted that all members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe have been invited to send observers, saying: “NATO Allies respect the letter and the spirit of our international commitments.”
