NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed strengthened cooperation between the EU and NATO ahead of a meeting with EU Defence Ministers on Monday (25 June 2018). The Secretary General noted that he will sign a new Joint Declaration with the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission at the NATO Summit, setting out a shared vision for further cooperation.

He added that military mobility is a key area of NATO-EU cooperation. “We need to be able to move forces quickly throughout Europe, when needed,” he said, noting that NATO has invested two billion euros in projects supporting military mobility over the last four years. Addressing the issue of enlargement, the Secretary General said he expected that an invitation to start accession talks would be extended to the government in Skopje at the NATO Summit.
