Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller welcomed Defence Minister Ron Mark to NATO Headquarters on Thursday (15 February 2018) to discuss deepening cooperation between NATO and New Zealand. New Zealand recently concluded a new Individual Partnership and Cooperation Programme (IPCP) with the Alliance, which sets out an ambitious roadmap for continued partnership.

The Deputy Secretary General thanked Minister Mark for New Zealand’s contributions to NATO operations and deployments, including in Afghanistan and in fighting piracy. The two also discussed the security situation in the Asia-Pacific region, and welcomed possibilities to deepen cooperation in the years ahead.

New Zealand’s new partnership agreement with NATO lays the groundwork to deepen joint work in areas of common interest, including science and technology, maritime security, and potentially in training missions for partner countries. The IPCP also focuses on areas such as cyber defence, counter terrorism, and the women, peace and security agenda.
