Today (10 November), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg travelled to Ørland, Norway to welcome the arrival of Norwegian F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. The Secretary General praised the continuing modernisation of NATO’s air forces and the strong partnership between European and American industry. “These planes,” the Secretary General noted, “make the Atlantic Ocean narrower.”
Ørland Main Air Station is a crucial component of NATO’s air defence in the region and is home to several of NATO’s AWACS aircraft. During his visit, the Secretary General met with King Harald of Norway, Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Defence Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen.
