On 22-25 May, a NATO team of 14 experts visited newly created training centres for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) for the Ukrainian Navy in Mykolaiyv and the Air Force in Vasilkyv. The aim was to assess the training centres’ preparedness to start basic /intermediate leadership courses and basic instructor course as well as to give advice to improve their readiness and quality of the planned training.

Through the NATO Defence Education Enhancement Programme, Ukraine has received three years of assistance to develop an NCO Corps. The Ukrainian side has now developed its own courses on leadership and for instructors for NCOs. They are ready now to start teaching and training basic and intermediate levels on their own. Canada, Latvia, Lithuania and the United States will act as a mentors.
