NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller led the ambassadors to the North Atlantic Council in a visit to NATO’s Joint Force Command Headquarters in Brunssum, Netherlands and to the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control Force Headquarters in Geilenkirchen, Germany on Monday (28 November 2016).

In Brunssum, the Deputy Secretary General and Ambassadors were briefed on plans for NATO’s multinational enhanced forward presence in the eastern part of the Alliance. In Geilenkirchen, they visited the E-3A Component: NATO’s fleet of Airborne Early Warning and Control radar aircraft, also known as AWACS. NATO AWACS are essential to monitoring Allied airspace and are critical assets for NATO missions and operations. Since October 2016, NATO AWACS have supported the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL with air surveillance and situational awareness.
