NATO Defence Ministers are meeting in Brussels over the next two days (26-27 October 2016) to take forward decisions made at the Warsaw Summit in July. Today, ministers will mark progress in plans for a strengthened NATO presence in the eastern part of the Alliance, and in the Black Sea region. They will also discuss Russia’s recent military activity along NATO’s borders.
Later today, ministers will focus on NATO’s efforts to project stability beyond its borders. They will review progress on NATO training and capacity building for Iraq. Ministers will also consider the future of the Alliance’s deployment in the Aegean Sea and consider a possible maritime role for NATO in the Central Mediterranean, which could support the EU’s Operation Sophia.
