The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein visited NATO Headquarters on Tuesday (15 March 2016) and met with Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss progress in cooperation between NATO and the United Nations and how to deepen political dialogue between the Alliance and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

Ambassador Vershbow and the High Commissioner discussed NATO’s support to assist with the refugee and migrant crisis and reviewed topics of mutual concern, including the security situation in eastern Ukraine. The Deputy Secretary General also encouraged further dialogue between NATO and the OHCHR.
