On 12-13 January, a delegation of high-level officers from Egypt’s Ministry of Defence, visited NATO Headquarters as part of a three-day visit to HQ and SHAPE for discussions with officials from the Alliance’s International Staff and International Military Staff in the framework of the Mediterranean Dialogue.

Topics included NATO’s outreach to the Mediterranean and the broader Middle East region, the military cooperation aspects of the Individual Partnership and Cooperation Programme between Egypt and NATO; NATO-Egypt cooperation in the framework of the Science for Peace and Security Programme; public diplomacy and strategic communications; and opportunities for cooperation in the fields of crisis management, civil emergency planning, counter-terrorism, armament, logistics and medical cooperation.

During the visit, the high-level delegation held discussions with Ms. Oana Lungescu, NATO Spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Caruso, Deputy Director, Cooperation and Regional Security Division, International Military Staff, Amb. Francesca Tardioli, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Operations, Mr. James Appathurai, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Mr. Nicola de Santis, Head Middle East and North Africa Section, Political Affairs and Security Policy Division, Mrs. Eva Svobodova, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications Advisor to the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Mr. Bruno Cantin, Head, Logistics Capabilities Section, Defence Policy and Planning Division, Mr. Patrick Touzé, Head, Policy, Plans and Partnership Section, Defence Investment Division, Mr. Steven Mehringer, Head of the Communications Services Section, Public Diplomacy Division, Dr. Deniz Beten, Senior Advisor on the Science for Peace and Security Programme, Dr. Eyup Turmus, Emerging Security Challenges Division, Mr. Mihai Carp, Deputy Head of Operations Section, Operations Division, and Mr. Daniele Riggio, Press Officer, NATO Press and Media Section, Public Diplomacy Division.

On the second day of their visit, the delegates also had the opportunity to tour NATOChannel (NATO’s television station) and the Media Operations Centre.
