NATO welcomes Georgia’s positive progress on reforms

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Georgia’s positive democratic reforms on Tuesday (24 November 2015) in talks with the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, David Bakradze, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Dondua. The ministers met the Secretary General and the Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, before participating in a meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission.
During the NATO-Georgia Commission, Allies welcomed Georgia’s steady democratic reforms and progress on rule of law, encouraging Georgia to continue on this path. They further discussed the implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package of measures, which was launched at the Wales Summit in 2014 to help Georgia improve its defence capabilities and move towards NATO membership. Allies said they looked forward to the full implementation of the package, and to deepening cooperation with Georgia.
The Secretary General visited Tbilisi in August 2015, and inaugurated the NATO-Georgia Training and Evaluation Centre at the Krtsanisi Military Facility. At the opening, Mr. Stoltenberg praised Georgia as “a strong and reliable contributor to our shared security”, saying the country’s relationship with NATO “is getting closer and deeper”.
