Kosovo has become increasingly secure and this positive trend is especially prominent in Northern Kosovo, where they have been no major security incidents in recent months to jeopardise the peace and freedom of movement. This was the conclusion of the Commander of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta and the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces (SAF), General Ljubisa Dikovic. Their meeting in Nis, Serbia, last Wednesday (23 September, 2015), was their first since the appointment of General Miglietta in August.

Synchronised KFOR/SAF patrols take place along the Administrative Boundary Line. Both commanders agreed that this cooperation and joint activities contribute to maintain the peaceful and positive atmosphere.

General Miglietta and General Dikovic also discussed the current flow of migrants throughout the Balkan area and the necessity to reach a comprehensive, humanitarian and political solution involving all international stakeholders.

Their talks are part of High Level Talks agenda aimed at enhancing dialogue and mutual military understanding.  The KFOR Commander periodically meets with Chiefs of Defence of the countries bordering the areas where KFOR operates.

NATO has been leading the peace support operation in Kosovo since June 1999. KFOR continues to contribute to a safe and secure environment and supports the development of the Kosovo Security Force. Through its work, KFOR is helping make Kosovo stable, democratic, multiethnic and peaceful.
