External review expresses confidence in NATO auditors

An external peer evaluation of the International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN) has found that the Board adheres to high professional standards of efficiency and effectiveness.
The International Board of Auditors is the independent audit body of the Alliance, with a mandate to assure the North Atlantic Council and NATO governments that all common funds are used properly and that financial reporting is accurate.
The International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN) voluntarily submitted itself for independent review in September 2014, in keeping with its aim to meet the highest standards of transparency and accountability. The peer review found that the IBAN is providing high quality auditing reports, and full assurance to NATO governments that common funds are being used in line with guidance from nations. The review was carried out in October and November 2014, and was submitted to the North Atlantic Council on Tuesday (16 December 2014) by the national audit authorities of Poland and Spain.
The report submission ceremony was attended by NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow, the Polish Permanent Representative to NATO Jacek Najder, the Spanish Permanent Representative to NATO Miguel Aguirre de Cárcer, as well as NATO Assistant Secretary General for Executive Management Wayne J. Bush. All IBAN members were also present, led by the chairman Dr. Charilaos Charisis. The Polish Supreme Audit Court Delegation was headed by its president Krzysztof Kwiatkowski and the Spanish Supreme Audit Court Delegation was led by its president Ramón Alvarez de Miranda.
