NATO and Mediterranean partners discuss partnership, regional security with the King of Jordan

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the 28 Permanent Representatives to the North Atlantic Council discussed regional security and NATO-Jordan cooperation during talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday (10 December 2014) in Amman, Jordan. The high-level NATO delegation was in Jordan to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Mediterranean Dialogue, and was joined by the ambassadors of the seven nations (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia) participating in the partnership forum.
The Secretary General and the ambassadors of NATO countries and the Mediterranean Dialogue nations discussed with his Majesty the King current security challenges, including the threat of terrorism and extremism. Mr. Stoltenberg expressed NATO’s gratitude for Jordan’s continued close partnership in the Mediterranean Dialogue. He also thanked the King for Jordan's efforts to enhance regional security and stability, and said that the Alliance looks forward to enhancing its partnership with Jordan, including efforts to increase joint exercises and enhance capabilities.
Wednesday’s audience followed a Mediterranean Dialogue seminar in Amman on Tuesday. On 9 December, the Secretary General also held talks with Jordanian Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Dr. Abdullah Ensour, and met separately with Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.
