Mr. Jens Stoltenberg chaired his first North Atlantic Council after taking up his post as NATO Secretary General on Wednesday (1 October 2014). “I am really looking forward to start and it’s a great honour to be the Secretary General of NATO,” Mr. Stoltenberg said arriving at NATO headquarters.

The Secretary General was welcomed to the headquarters by Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, German Ambassador Martin Erdmann, the Dean of the Council, and the Deputy Chairman of the Military Committee, Lt. Gen. Mark Schissler. Mr. Stoltenberg and Ambassador Vershbow paid their respects at the NATO Memorial to the Fallen before entering the headquarters.

The former Norwegian Prime Minister was appointed by the 28 Allies in March to succeed Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen as Secretary General. Mr. Stoltenberg was previously Prime Minister of Norway from 2000-2001 and from 2005-2013.
