NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussed final preparations for this week's Summit in Wales with British Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday (3 September 2014).

The talks were held on the eve of the start of the two-day gathering which will be attended by the Alliance's 28 heads of state and government.

Mr. Fogh Rasmussen said the Alliance is on track to take important decisions to make NATO faster, fitter and more flexible so that it can meet current and future security challenges.

Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, as well as growing instability to the South, including the rise of extremism and sectarian strife in the Middle East and North Africa, are expected to top the summit agenda.

Allies will also focus on newer threats such as cyber, missile defence and hybrid warfare.

The Summit will also open a new chapter in NATO's engagement with Afghanistan as the ISAF combat mission is completed at the end of 2014.
