NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen met the Chairman of the International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN), Dr Charisis on Thursday (3 July 2014). The IBAN is the independent external audit body of NATO responsible for auditing the accounts of the different NATO bodies. The Secretary General welcomed the significant steps that had been taken to restructure and strengthen the IBAN over the past 12 months.

The Secretary General underlined the important role the IBAN plays in providing Nations with the necessary reassurances that NATO’s financial management is in order. Dr Charisis updated the Secretary General on the key elements of the IBAN’s Annual Activities report which will be presented to the North Atlantic Council shortly. The Annual Activities Report has been published on the NATO website for many years and continues to provide an important source of information to the public.

The Secretary General said he looked forward to seeing the publication of more audit reports which would underline NATO’s commitment to better accountability, good financial governance and improved transparency.
