A group of high-level Opinion Leaders from Morocco visited the NATO Headquarters on 27 May 2014, in the context of the 20th Anniversary of the Mediterranean Dialogue.

The Moroccan civil society representatives had the opportunity to exchange views with the Permanent Representatives on the North Atlantic Council of Portugal, H.E. Ambassador João Mira Gomes; of France, H.E. Ambassador Jean-Baptiste Mattéi, and of Spain, H.E. Ambassador Miguel Aguirre De Cárcer. During their visit at NATO Headquarters the high level group was also briefed on the Alliance’s transformation and its outreach to the Mediterranean and to the Middle East by Mr. Nicola de Santis, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Section in NATO’s Political Affairs and Security Policy Division; by Mr. Mihai Carp on NATO’s operations from NATO’s Operations Division and by Mr. Philippe Fougerolle from NATO’s Emerging Security Challenges Division on NATO’s Science for Peace program.

During this briefing programme participants also met with the Ambassador of Morocco to the European Union, H.E. Menouar Alem, as well as with the Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO’s Emerging Security Challenges Division, Dr. Jamie Shea.

Morocco is a member of NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue from its establishment in December 1994.
