Following a request by the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC), over 20 NATO and partner countries have offered assistance for ongoing flood relief efforts.

"This is a terrible natural disaster and I express my condolences for all the lives lost throughout the region. My thoughts are with the families and communities affected", the NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said.  He stressed that "many allies and partners have already responded to this crisis. They are sending helicopters, boats,   emergency response teams, much needed drinking water, food, shelter and funds".

As of Tuesday (20 May), 21 NATO and partner countries are assisting Bosnia and Herzegovina in dealing with the  consequences of the flood calamity:  Albania, Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Montenegro, Latvia, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States.

Bosnia and Herzegovina requested disaster assistance on Thursday (15 May) following heavy rainfalls that started on 13 May, causing severe floods and landslides in the North Eastern and Central parts of the country.

The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) is NATO’s  civil emergency response mechanism for the Euro-Atlantic area. It is active all year round, and involves NATO’s 28 allies and 41 partner countries from across the globe. The Centre functions as a clearing-house for coordinating requests and offers of assistance from NATO and partner countries.
