NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussed priorities for the this year’s Alliance Summit, including ways to increase multinational defence cooperation, with Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi on Tuesday (18 February 2014). “At our Wales Summit next September we will make sure that our unique transatlantic Alliance remains effective in a changing world, against new threats with strong capabilities and strong partnerships,” said the Secretary General.

At the end of their talks, Mr. Fogh Rasmussen and Minister Martonyi also jointly commemorated the 15th anniversary of Hungary’s entry into NATO, opening a special exhibit profiling the work of renowned Hungarian photojournalist Robert Capa. The Secretary General thanked Hungary for its contributions to NATO missions and operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo and its strong commitment to the Alliance’s core values. He also noted the importance Hungary attaches to keeping NATO’s door open to advance the integration of the Western Balkans.

On the exhibit, Mr. Fogh Rasmussen said that NATO’s purpose was to ensure “we never again face the despair, destruction and division that previous generations endured in the 20th century and which we can see so vividly in Robert Capa’s masterful photographs.”
