On 18 and 19 November 2013, the NATO Political Affairs and Security Policy Division organised a visit to NATO Headquarters for a group of Jordanian diplomats from the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy, who were visiting Brussels as part of NATO’s public diplomacy activities under the Mediterranean Dialogue (MD).
Topics discussed included NATO’s outreach to the Middle East and the Mediterranean region; Military Cooperation in the Framework of the Mediterranean Dialogue; NATO’s new Strategic Concept and NATO’s Partnership with Jordan; NATO-Russia relations; NATO’s operations in Afghanistan and NATO’s Anti-Piracy Operation; and new emerging security challenges.
The group met with Mr. Nicola de Santis, Head, Middle East and North Africa Countries Section in NATO’s Political Affairs and Security Policy Division, with Dr. Petr Lunak, Deputy Head, Engagement Section, Public Diplomacy Division, with Dr. Detlef Puhl, Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, with Major Halil Pulat, Staff Officer, Cooperation and Regional Security Division, International Military Staff, with Mr. Mihai Carp, Deputy Head, Operations Section A, Operations Division, with Mr. Jonathan Hill, Operations Section B, Operations Division, and with Dr. Rolf Schwarz, Political Officer, Middle East and North Africa Section, Political Affairs and Security Policy Division.
The Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Brussels, H.E. Dr Montaser Oklah-Al-Zoubi, hosted a dinner in honour of the visit of the group to Brussels. The Jordanian diplomats continued their study visit to Prague, where they were hosted by the Czech Republic which is currently the NATO Contact Point Embassy on Jordan.
