Brussels, 2 Sep. 2013 – U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General Mark O.Schissler takes over the post of Deputy Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee from outgoing Deputy Chairman, Marine Corps Lieutenant General Walter E. Gaskin.

The Deputy Chairman of the Military Committee (DCMC) is always a United States Officer and his responsibilities are to assist the Chairman of the Military Committee (CMC) in the execution of his duties and to take over the Chairmanship in his absence.  He is also specifically responsible for the co-ordination of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical matters within the International Military Staff.

The DCMC is, in addition, the Military Advisor to the Deputy Secretary General in his capacity as the Chairman of the High Level Task Force, and Co-Chairman of the Senior NATO Logisticians Conference.

Assuming his duties, Lieutenant General Schissler stressed:  "I am privileged to be a part of this Alliance, especially the Military Committee, and I look forward to work with all Nations to meet the challenges of global security.”
