United States General Frank Gorenc assumed command of NATO’s Allied Air Command in Ramstein, Germany on Friday (2 August) during a ceremony attended by General Philip Breedlove, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).

Headquarters Air Command has a wide variety of critical tasks including: planning and oversight of Alliance air operations, coordination of the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence system, and working closely with our valued partner nations,” General Breedlove said after congratulating General Gorenc on his new position. “Their command and control of the ongoing deployment of Patriot missile batteries to Turkey is a great example of how the men and women working at Air Command are successfully delivering air power for the Alliance."

Before taking up his new post, General Gorenc was the Assistant Vice-Chief of Staff and Director of Air Staff Headquarters for the U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C.  He replaces General  Breedlove, who was Commander of Allied Air Command prior to becoming SACEUR. General Gorenc assumed command of U.S. Air Forces in Europe as well as the U.S. Air Forces Africa.

The air command at Ramstein is in charge of all Allied air activities from northern Norway to southern Italy and from the Azores to eastern Turkey.
