Zagreb, 5 October 2012 - Lieutenant General Jürgen Bornemann, Director General of NATO’s International Military Staff (DGIMS), is currently visiting Croatia on the invitation of Lieutenant General D. Lovrić, Croatian Chief of Defense.

During his visit, LtGen. Bornemann had official talks at the Ministry of Defense with Croatian Chief of Defense LtGen. Lovrić and representatives of the Croatian General Staff.  He briefed his Croatian counterparts on NATO’s current agenda and, in turn, was briefed on the current situation and the reform agenda of the Croatian Armed Forces. A later meeting with Assistant Minister for Defense Policy Mr. D. Lozančić, centered on the important role Croatia plays in regional security and stability. The DGIMS emphasized that the Croatian success story could serve as a model for future NATO-aspirant nations from the region.

After these meetings, he gave a lecture to staff and students of the Croatian Defense Academy Petar Zrinski. A very lively question and answer session followed, covering a broad range of topics.

All talks benefited from the outstandingly open and frank atmosphere in which they were conducted. The visit continues on Saturday with a visit to the Croatian Naval Base in Split.

This official visit coincides with the closing phase of the integration process of the Croatian Armed Forces, which will culminate in a "Final Integration Conference" to occur on October 25, 2012 in Zagreb.
