Ohrid, 08 June 2011 - Lieutenant General Walter E. Gaskin, the Deputy Chairman of NATO Military Committee (DCMC), addressed the 5th Balkans Countries Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) conference hosted by Lieutenant General Miroslav Stojanovski, Serbian Chief of the General Staff, and the authorities of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹ today.

CHODs from, Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹, Romania, Serbia and Turkey and Deputy CHODs of Croatia and Slovenia came together in Ohrid to attend the event. Guests to the conference also included Commander of the Allied Joint Force Command, Naples, Admiral Samuel Locklear.

The main outcome of the conference was the strong will expressed by all the CHOD’s to enhance military cooperation among Balkan Countries, in order to meet the regional security challenges, in tandem with the efforts of those international organizations having security roles in the Balkans.

Throughout his intervention, Lieutenant General Gaskin underlined the fact that NATO and its partners are committed to ensuring undeniable success and stability in the region. He also stated that NATO will stay the course in the Balkans to bring lasting stability and prosperity to the region.
