31 травня 2011 року Генеральний секретар НАТО Андерс Фог Расмуссен і голова Комісії Африканського Союзу Жан Пінг зустрілися для продовження обговорення лівійської кризи.
Під час зустрічі Генеральний секретар чітко вказав на те, що операція НАТО «Юніфайд протектор» виконується у цілковитій відповідності до положень Резолюцій 1970 і 1973 Ради Безпеки ООН заради захисту цивільного населення від будь-якого нападу чи загрози нападу. Пан Расмуссен також наголосив на важливості продовження діалогу з Африканським Союзом, а також з усіма головними і регіональними дійовими особами в рамках зусиль міжнародного співтовариства з пошуку політичного розв'язання поточної кризи. Пан Расмуссен високо оцінив дуже добру практичну співпрацю з Африканським Союзом і підтвердив відданість НАТО цим відносинам.
Пан Пінг раніше відвідував штаб-квартиру НАТО 5 квітня, де він зустрівся з Північноатлантичною радою.
