In a meeting with the President Roza Otunbayeva on Monday 28th February 2011, the NATO Secretary General said that Allies will continue supporting a democratic transition in Kyrgyzstan.
“The peaceful process that we see in Kyrgyzstan gives us the chance to find new ways to broaden our practical cooperation. NATO has a long expertise in supporting partners with defence and security sector reform and we stand ready to assist in line with Kyrgyzstan’s own priorities,” the Secretary General said.
Rasmussen stressed that Partnership for Peace offers a solid foundation to further develop cooperation with NATO. He also thanked President Otunbayeva for Kyrgyzstan’s political and practical support to the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. Kyrgyzstan has been a member of Partnership for Peace since 1994.
