Fighting piracy is no easy mission. For the members of NATO’s Operation Ocean Shield, tackling piracy off the Horn of Africa, it is an important daily task. This report follows Able Seaman Heidi one of the few women onboard the Danish Royal Navy ship HDMS Absalon.

“You have to be special,” she says as we follow her through a few days patrolling at sea, “you have to be built with something special to be a girl out here.”

Telling us about how proud she is to be one of the first Danish maritime soldiers to work in the operation, Able Seaman Heidi also details what it means to be a women taking part in this “tough but exciting” job.
