On 26 January, the 29 Chiefs of Defence of the NATO-Russia Council Military Representatives (NRC-MR) met in Brussels. The Chairman of the NRC-MR offered his condolences to the Russian Federation on the tragic events at Domodedovo Airport two days ago, stating that we stand together in the fight against terrorism.

During the meeting, the NRC CHODs approved the NRC-MR Work Plan for 2011. This Work Plan builds on the success of the 2010 Work Plan, and seeks to deepen and broaden NATO-Russia military cooperation. The plan covers six agreed areas of cooperation, Logistics, Combating Terrorism, Search and Rescue at Sea, Counter Piracy  and two new areas of cooperation, Theatre Missile Defence and Military Academic Exchanges.

The CHODs also discussed how to further develop NATO-Russia military cooperation efforts. The work of the military directly supports the NRC political framework, contributing to building a true strategic partnership. This links up with the outcomes of the NATO-Russia Council Summit held in Lisbon on 20 November 2010.

The NRC CHODs welcomed the NRC Consolidated Glossary of Cooperation, that will be published later this year under the joint and general editorship of Army General Nikolay Makarov and Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola. The Glossary contains over 6000 terms and covers key areas of NATO-Russia political and military cooperation.
