On 17 December 2010, Lt Gen. Jürgen Bornemann, Director General of the International Military Staff (IMS) presented on behalf of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen the NATO Meritorious Service Medal to the IMS Operations Division’s Operational Plans Branch Chief Captain Maarten Stenvert.
Captain Stenvert was awarded this Medal for his distinguished service while assigned on NATO duties and for his outstanding leadership and exceptional contribution to the Alliance’s mission.
The NATO Meritorious Service Medal was first awarded in 2003 to commend staff whose personal initiative and dedication went beyond their duty to make a difference both to their colleagues, and to NATO as an organization. These medals are awarded on a yearly basis to personnel from across NATO Headquarters. One IMS member is selected for this award.
