On 6 December, NATO Deputy Secretary General, H.E. Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero, welcomed Serbian parliamentarians at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

The group brought together representatives of coalition and opposition parties, and included key opinion-formers from various parliamentary committees such as the Foreign Affairs Committee, Defence and Security Committee and the Committee on Inter-ethnic Relations.

NATO officials briefed the group on a variety of issues, including the outcomes of the Lisbon Summit, new security threats and challenges, NATO operations and NATO’s relations with Serbia.

The visitors took part in a panel discussion with the Permanent Representatives to the North Atlantic Council (NAC) of Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece and the United States. They also met with the Head of the Serbian Mission to NATO, H.E. Ambassador Branislav Milinkovic.

The Outreach Section of NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division organised the visit as part of NATO's efforts to increase awareness of the Alliance and provide a platform for discussions between NATO officials and the Serbian public.

The parliamentarians will visit the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NPA) on Tuesday 7 December.
