Porto, (Portugal). Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola, the Chairman of the Military Committee, participated in a NATO-sponsored conference to discuss the theme “A new NATO”.

The event took place at the University Lusíada in Porto – Portugal - and was co-organized by the Lusíada University and the Portuguese Center for Studies on the Population, Economy and Society – CEPESE, today. Admiral di Paola addressed an audience of about 200 people, constituted by students in International Relations and the University’s core of professors.

The Chairman of the Military Committee presented the main outcomes of the NATO Summit in Lisbon: the approval of NATO’s new Strategic Concept, the agreement on missile defence, the renewal of NATO’s relationship with Russia, and finally the launching of the transition process and the enduring partnership in Afghanistan.

His speech was followed by a discussion with the audience and the lecturers, during which the Chairman explained the achievements of the Summit, their military implications and how those outcomes would pave the way for NATO’s continued contributions to global security.
