On 21 October 2010, the Deputy Secretary General of NATO H.E. Amb. Claudio Bisogniero, met high level opinion leaders from the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria, during a briefing programme organized by the Public Diplomacy Division at NATO Headquarters.
The topics discussed included: NATO’s upcoming Lisbon Summit and the new Strategic Concept; NATO’s transformation and outreach to the Mediterranean and the Middle East region; NATO’s military cooperation under the Mediterranean Dialogue; NATO’s role in the fight against terrorism; NATO’s current operations; and scientific and environmental cooperation with NATO.
The Algerian participants in the visit had the opportunity to discuss these topics, among others, withe the Permanent Representatives of Turkey, Spain, Hungary, the United Kingdom and Portugal to the North Atlantic Council, H.E. Amb. Carlos Miranda, H.E. Amb. Haydar Berk, H.E. Amb. István Kovács, H.E. Amb. Leslie Mariot and H.E. Amb. João Mira Gomes; the Chargé d’Affaires of the Italian Delegation to the North Atlantic Council; and Mr. Nicola de Santis, Head of Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative Countries Section in the NATO Public Diplomacy Division.
