A NATO Trust Fund for the Resettlement of Discharged Ministry of Defence Personnel in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the years 2010 to 2012 was launched today at a signing ceremony at NATO Headquarters.
Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Robert Simmons and representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the lead nations - the Netherlands, Norway and Slovenia - and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The Trust Fund is part of NATO’s support for Bosnia and Herzegovina in its efforts to mitigate the socio-economic consequences of continuing defence reform. The Trust Fund will support the reintegration of Bosnian personnel made redundant during the defence reform process from 2010 to 2012 and also strengthen domestic capacity to meet similar challenges in the future, if and when the need arises.
The Executing Agent for this project is the IOM who will, in co-ordination with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Ministry of Defence, provide the technical assistance to facilitate the social and economic reintegration of approximately 3 000 Released Personnel whose contracts with the Armed Forces will end between 2010 and 2012.
Based on the financial pledges of the lead nations and other contributors (Sweden, Luxembourg and Bosnia and Herzegovina), the Trust Fund will amount to €3 421 658 and will reinforce the implementation of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Ministry of Defence Policy and Strategy document on Resettlement. In addition, the project will be conducted in coordination with a bilateral agreement made between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States Agency for International Development that is being funded to the amount of US$ 2113 600.
The Partnership for Peace Trust Fund policy was first established by the North Atlantic Council in 2000.
