On 1 October NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen visited Georgia to meet with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and senior ministers.
He thanked them for Georgia's contribution to the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan, and expressed his condolences for the casualties Georgia has just suffered.
Secretary General Rasmussen confirmed NATO's solid commitment to Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, saying that the Alliance stands firmly behind the decisions taken at the Bucharest Summit.
The Secretary General looked forward to continued NATO support for Georgia's reforms and as part of that effort, inaugurated a new NATO Liaison office in Tbilisi.
