The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, visited NATO Headquarters on Friday, 1 October, and exchanged views with the Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero.
Mr Mammadyarov met with the North Atlantic Council to discuss his country’s practical cooperation with NATO, domestic reforms in the framework of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) and regional security issues.
During the discussion, NATO Allies recognized Azerbaijan as a credible and committed partner to the Alliance. They thanked Azerbaijan for the support for NATO’s mission in Afghanistan with troops, overflight rights and civilian reconstruction.
Allies also noted with appreciation the broad range of cooperation developed in the context of the Individual Partnership Action Plan and Azerbaijan’s contribution to the discussions on NATO’s new Strategic Concept, to be adopted at the upcoming Lisbon Summit.
