On 22 September 2010, the NATO-Russia Council met in New York at the level of Foreign Ministers to chart the way forward in relations and cooperation between the 29 member states.
Chaired by the NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Ministers expressed their shared view that the time had come to deepen relations. They discussed areas in which practical cooperation could be deepened against common challenges, such as on Afghanistan, fighting piracy and combatting terrorism. They exchanged views on enhancing security within Europe as well, including through missile defence and progress in conventional arms control.
Finally, they looked forward to a possible NRC Summit in November, alongside the NATO Summit, which could be the venue to agree a Joint Review of 21st Century Security Challenges, enhance cooperation on Afghanistan and work on other practical projects.
