NATO aircraft departs with relief goods to Islamabad

A NATO Trainer Cargo Aircraft departed Geilenkirchen airbase in Germany on Sunday 22 August with humanitarian aid to Pakistan. It will deliver relief goods such as water pumps, power generators and tents. The goods were donated by the Republic of Slovakia.
“The NATO cargo flight is part of the international community’s overall effort to help Pakistan in this major humanitarian desaster. The Alliance’s support to the flood relief efforts follows requests that we received from the Pakistani authorities”, said Maurits Jochems, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Operations.
Last week the North Atlantic Council decided to provide airlift and sealift for the delivery of aid donated by nations and humanitarian relief organisations. Since the first request for humanitarian assistance by the Pakistani authorities in early August, the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) at NATO Headquarters in Brussels has been acting as a clearing house for humanitarian assistance offered by NATO Allies, partner nations and international organizations.
